How i can install XenApp 6.5 for testing purpose?
Well, easy read below!
Of course you need Citrix Xenapp 6.5, you can download a trial version here
In my case, i created a VM with Windows 2008 R2, updated with Windows Update and VmwareTools.
After that, attach the XenApp iso to the VM cd-drive and let’s start!
This screen appears after the Xenapp 6.5 iso file is loaded, choose: Install XenApp Server
Click ok to install .NET 3.5 SP1
Click on Add server roles.
For my testing environment i choose Platinium Edition (of course you need to have these license)
Accept the EULA and click on Next
We will install only XenApp server, so select it and click on Next
Click on Next
Citrix show you all steps to install XenApp 6.5, click Next
Click on Install
Click on Finish
This screen must appears, click on restart
After the reboot, this screen will appears, click on Resume Install
Again, Citrix will show you the steps, click on Install
When complete click on Finish
Again we need to restart the server
After the reboot you have to specify a Citrix License server (if you don’t have a Citrix License server, then you can’t use XenApp, the Citrix IMA Service will not start).
To Install a Citrix License server : Xenapp6.5 License Server Install
Enter the License server name and click on Test Connection
A sucessfull pop-up will appears
Choose your license model (XenApp in my case) and click on Apply
Now, click on configure
For testing purpose we’ll create a new Farm
Enter Farm name and Citrix administrator account
Click on create a new database
Enter your credential
The database is created
Choose your shadowing option (in order to gain remote control of published applications).
Create a custome Zone Name, for me it’s Paris and click on XML Service
Keep it blank and click to Receiver
We will enter the Web Interface url after creating it, so for the moment keep it blank and click on Remote Desktop User
Don’t allow anonymous user nor the list from the Users group, keep it blank too. We’ll create Active Directory Group in order to give access to the published applications.
Click on Apply
You’ll have this screen after a succesfull install, click on Finish.
Reboot the server
After the reboot, open a session and launch Citrix AppCenter
if you have this error message, click on Disable Authenticode. You can check this Citrix KB for more information.
Now we can configure Citrix XenApp 6.5, click on Next
Select XenApp only and click Next
Click on Add Local Computer and click on Next
Click on Next
Click on Finish when the Discovery is completed.
Now your Citrix server is ready, you can install application and publish them to users.
