How to patch Esxi like another esxi?
Well, usually we use VUM (Vmware Update Manager) to to so. But if you create a dynamic baseline. The last Esxi will have new update from Vmware.
If i check the Esxi-1 server, the version i want is
Esxi-3 server, the version is
So he have to use PowerCli to check installed update on Esxi-1 server.
Get-VMHostPatch esxi-1.super-vilains.bad | select ID
We can see all patch on the Esxi
Now we use VUM to create a new baseline.
Go to Update Manager and create a new Baseline and setup as below
Choose Fixed baseline
Now you have to choose the path to be added in your basline, as you can see there’s a lot of patches.
Click on Type contains and choose Vendor ID
Now you can copy and paste patch finded with the PowerCli command
Add all patch in your fixed baseline
At the end you can see information for your new baseline
Ok, now select your Esxi anc click on Update Manager, Attach
Add the new baseline and click Attach
Now we can scan the Esxi for new patch
Now you can see how many patch your Esxi need to be like the others
Click on Stage button. Check the number of patch then click Next
Now you can see staged update. Click on Next
Now you can see staging operaions. Wait until the status is ok.
Now we can deploy patch, click on the Remediate button, the screen below will appears. Click Next
Click on Next
In my case i want to deploy immediately, but you can schedule a task.
Click on Next
Choose the correct option depending on your settings, then click Next
Click on Finish
You can see operations, wait for Remediate entity to finish
Now you can see if compliance is ok
And as you can see the Esxi server version is the same as Esxi-1
